Honored and Empowered: A Night to Remember at AFAB's 35th Annual Gala

This past Saturday, I had the privilege of attending a truly heartwarming event that I'll hold dear for a long time. The Association of Haitian Women in Boston (AFAB) celebrated its 35th annual gala, an evening filled with unity and a strong sense of purpose. Among the honorees that night, I was deeply humbled and grateful to receive the esteemed Mental Health Leadership Initiative for New Arrivals award on behalf of Wellness for Our Future LLC.

The Dedication of AFAB

Founded in 1988, AFAB stands as a beacon of empowerment. Comprising Haitian women from diverse backgrounds, they share a common purpose - to uplift Haitian women. Their mission goes beyond wo

rds and permeates every program and service they offer. They tirelessly work to raise the consciousness of Haitian women about their social, economic, and political rights as citizens. Their energy is inspiring as they organize to ensure that these women receive the entitlement they rightfully deserve.

But AFAB's commitment goes even further; they are resolute in their goal to demystify social traditions that have historically hindered women's empowerment. They take bold steps to address and combat various forms of violence against women, firmly believing in the potential for women to take control of their lives, become self-sufficient, and reclaim their self-worth, provided they have the right support system in place

In the eyes of AFAB, the principles of equality are paramount. They firmly hold the belief that society must treat all individuals equally, fairly, and with respect, irrespective of academic, economic, or social backgrounds, age, sexual orientation, race, physical abilities, or religious beliefs. Their unwavering commitment extends to fostering an environment that respects, understands, and supports one another, creating a unified atmosphere of respect and harmony.

Final Thoughts

Last Saturday's event wasn't just another event; it was a testament to the power of collective action and shared commitment. When individuals and organizations unite with a shared purpose, meaningful change becomes not just a possibility but an inevitability. So, here's to more moments of humility, inspiration, and impactful initiatives in the future, with AFAB leading the way toward a brighter tomorrow, committed to empowering Haitian women in Boston and beyond.
